The conference, which was held in Kissimmee, Florida, featured a variety of conservative leaders, including Florida governor Ron DeSantis and former vice president Mike Pence. According to The Christian Post, Cruz addressed the largely conservative Christian crowd in a message centered on two themes: the need to "defend America" and a coming revival. "If we are going to defeat the woke assault, then all of us need to wake up," the Texas Senator said. "The slumbering Church needs to wake up ...," he continued. "We need to wake up. We need to energize. We need to engage. … We can win, and we will win." Cruz, a 2016 presidential candidate, contrasted the idea that "politics is downstream from culture" by asserting that "today, politics is culture." "If you want to hold on to your faith, if you want to hold on to your freedom, then you have to rise and answer the call to defend America," he stressed. Cruz also argued that out of roughly 90 million evangelical Christians in the U.S., only about half vote in political elections because the "Church is asleep." Meanwhile, Cruz shared that his father, Pastor Raphael Cruz, says "no one bears more responsibility for [the stripping away of values and the loss of lives from abortions] than the pastors in America … who hide behind the pulpit." Cruz continued arguing that America's foundations and "eternal principles" are under a "relentless" assault like never before. "America is great," Cruz contended. "Christopher Columbus discovering America was a good thing. George Washington was an American hero. Thomas Jefferson was an American hero. Abraham Lincoln was an American hero. Our founding fathers were extraordinary patriots. America has been a force for good in the world. We should stand for our national anthem," he said. "Police officers keep us safe. Marriage is a holy covenant before God. An unborn child is a child. Children do best when they are raised by a mother and a father. Israel is our friend. The Wuhan virus came from Wuhan. And there is a difference between boys and girls," Cruz asserted. The politician pointed out that such statements a few years ago "would have been utterly uncontroversial and blazingly obvious, even to the most dimwitted among us." However, he warned that saying them today can get you canceled, fired, or erased. Cruz also condemned Critical race theory as "bigoted" and "a lie." Critical race theory, he argued, "seeks to turn us against each other" and is "every bit as racist as the Klansmen in white sheets." Nevertheless, the Texas Senator remains hopeful because there is a "natural pendulum to politics." "The further and further and further crazy left they go, the more the American people are going to bring us back and pull this country back from the edge of the cliff," he argued. In closing, Cruz appeared optimistic that Republicans will "take back" Congress and the White House in the 2022 and 2024 elections. "It took Jimmy Carter to bring us Ronald Reagan," he said. "Joe Biden is Jimmy Carter 2.0, and I'm here to tell you revival is coming." Cruz quoted from Psalm 30, which says in part, "weeping may endure for the night, but joy cometh in the morning." "I'm here to tell you morning is coming," he encouraged the crowd. "We're going to win in 2022 and retire [Speaker of the House] Nancy Pelosi and [Senate Majority Leader] Chuck Schumer. And then we're going to win in 2024 and send Joe Biden and Kamala Harris a one-way ticket finally to our southern border," he said. "Revival is coming. God bless America. Revival is coming," Cruz concluded.

Over the weekend, conservative activists attended The Faith and Freedom Coalition's Road to the Majority conference to discuss how to win back Congress in the 2022 midterm elections. The conference held in Kissimmee, Florida, featured a variety of guest speakers, including Republican Senators Ted Cruz, Rick Scott, and Lindsey Graham. Most notably, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former vice president Mike Pence also delivered remarks. Pence, who headlined the event on Friday, received a welcome of mixed emotions from the audience of about 3,000 people, with some Trump supporters holding frustrations over Pence's refusal to block the certification of the 2020 election. In a clip provided by C-Span, several people can be heard chanting "traitor" as Pence took the stage. Most other audience members appeared to cheer Pence on. One reporter from the Washington Post noted that the hecklers who were shouting either left or were led out of the conference. According to CBN News, Pence touched on a variety of topics such as critical race theory, the recent conflict between Israel and Hamas and the crisis at the southern border. "President Biden replaced strength with weakness, moral clarity with confusion and loyalty with betrayal," the former vice president said. "If the world knows nothing else, let the world know this: America stands with Israel." "And yes, it's past time for our current Vice President to go to the border, put our policies back into effect and end the Biden border crisis today," Pence said. On Saturday, DeSantis closed out the conference with a powerful speech, starting with how the Sunshine State has handled the COVID-19 pandemic. "When COVID hit, we had to make a decision about how we were going to handle this in the state of Florida," DeSantis said. "As I saw over the initial weeks but then many months thereafter, state after state continuing to lock people down, I made the decision that Florida was going to lift people up." "We are proud that we were the only large state in this country, for the entire school year, 100 percent of our parents were able to send a child to school in person," he added. "We were also very proud that I made it a policy of the state, regardless of what any local government thought, that everybody has a right to work and earn a living and every business has a right to operate and continue with their livelihood." "Ultimately, Florida chose freedom over 'Fauci-ism,' and we are better off for it," DeSantis asserted. DeSantis also stressed the importance of advancing the First Amendment right of religious freedom, a recurring theme at the conference. "As conservatives, we have to advance policy that elevates the freedom of an individual over the freedom of an organization," the Florida governor said. "People need to be taught why America was founded, why there are principles that made our country unique," he added. "People need to be taught that our rights don't come from the government. They come from God." Ralph Reed, the Faith and Freedom Coalition founder and chairman, praised the turnout at this year's conference. "Road to Majority exists to promote the free expression of American faith values, and we could not be more pleased with the energy and dedication demonstrated by both speakers and attendees alike this week," Reed said. "The record level of turnout mirrors the drive we saw from these same activists and leaders in the 2020 election, and it is a great privilege to recognize the tremendous presence of the Black and Hispanic communities whose tireless work to reach neighborhoods into which we have been warmly welcomed," he added. NASHVILLE, Tenn. (RNS) — A committee that determines whether churches are conforming to Southern Baptist Convention affiliation rules will consider whether Saddleback Church, a prominent California congregation led by bestselling author Rick Warren, can continue in fellowship with the SBC after Saddleback recently ordained three women pastors. Shad Tibbs, pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church in Trout, Louisiana, made the request on Tuesday (June 15), the first day of the Southern Baptists’ two-day annual meeting. Tibbs called on the SBC to “break fellowship with Saddleback Baptist Church, as they have ordained three ladies as pastors, and all other churches that would choose to follow this path. At the very least, I am asking that the validity of this matter be looked into.” Saddleback, which does not have “Baptist” in its name but is one of the largest churches affiliated with the SBC, did not respond immediately to a request for comment. President J.D. Greear, who was officiating at the afternoon session when Tibbs made his motion, said the challenge would be filed with the credentials committee. Saddleback’s ordinations of three longtime staffers on Mother’s Day weekend drew criticism from prominent Southern Baptist leaders and praise from supporters of women in ministry. Local associations or state conventions have removed several churches after they appointed women as pastors, but the SBC, the national body, has not. Tibbs cited the Bible and an article of the denomination’s faith statement, the Baptist Faith and Message, last updated in 2000, which says, “While both men and women are gifted for service in the church, the office of pastor is limited to men as qualified by Scripture.” Tibbs cited a verse from 1 Timothy in the New Testament, as the faith statement does, which says, “I do not allow a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; instead, she is to remain quiet.” According to the SBC bylaws, the credentials committee considers such requests and makes a recommendation to the Executive Committee if it concludes the church “is not in friendly cooperation.” If the Executive Committee decides the church is no longer welcome, its ruling will be made public. If a church should appeal such a decision, messengers at an annual meeting could decide whether to sustain the ruling.

어렸을 때부터 신촌교회 출석...공직에 있기 때문에 장로 휴무한 것으로 보여..... 한국의 차기 대선 출마설이 돌고 있는 최재형 감사원장은 서울 서대문구 신촌교회(예장통합, 권철 담임목사) 휴무장로인 것으로 확인됐다. 어렸을 때부터 신촌교회에 출석해온 그는 공직에 있어서 교회에서 장로의 직무를 제대로 감당할 수 없기 때문에 장로직을 휴무한 것으로 보인다. 최 감사원장은 1956년 9월 2일, 경남 창원 출생으로 경기고등학교와 서울대학교 법학과를 졸업했으며 1981년 제23회 사법시험에 합격해 사법연수원 제13기를 수료하고 군법무관을 거쳐 판사의 길을 걸어왔다, 대전지방법원장과 서울 가정법원장, 서울고등법원 부장판사, 사법연수원 원장을 역임하고 2018년 1월 감사원장으로 임명되어 재직해오고 있다. 임기는 내년 1월까지이다. 최 감사원장은 월성 원전 1호기 감사 과정과 결과로 인해 현 정부의 정책에 반대하는 입장을 취한 것으로 비쳐져 ‘ 2의 윤석열’ 라는 말을 듣고 있다. 언론 보도대로 조만간 대선 출마 관련 입장을 밝히고 중도 사퇴할 경우 찬반 논란이 거셀 것으로 예상된다. 특히 보통 정권과 함께 공과를 함께 짊어져야 할 감사원장이 야당에 입당해 출마한다는 것 자체가 비상식적으로 비쳐질 수 있다는 지적이 일고 있다. 그러나 고등학교 재학 시절 2년간 다리가 불편한 친구(판사를 역임한 강명훈 변호사)를 업고 등교를 했고, 나란히 서울대 법대를 들어간 후 함께 사법고시에 합격하고 판사의 길을 걸은 것과 두 명의 자녀를 입양해서 가족으로 받아들인 것으로 인해 ‘미담제조기’라는 격찬을 받고 있다. 그의 부친인 최영섭 예비역 대령이 한국전쟁 당시 대한해협해전에 참전한 것으로 알려지고 있다, 또한 예장합동 교단 다음으로 규모가 큰 예장통합 교단 소속 교회의 장로라는 점에서 한국교회 안에서도 주목을 받을 것으로 예상된다. 현재 수감중인 이명박 전 대통령도 예장통합 소망교회 장로다.
